Aging Well in Jefferson County's Summit on Aging

summit on aging graphicThe 2011 Summit on Aging, hosted by the Aging Well in Jefferson County Project was held on June 28, 2011. There were many presentations by notable speakers and over a dozen exhibitors were on hand showcasing resources available to seniors and caretakers. There was also a Mobile Computer Training Lab on site dedicated to internet training for seniors.

Presentations Given
Overview of Strategic Plan for Aging Well in Jefferson County
The Aging Well Project mission is to develop and implement strategies creating inclusive, livable communities through sustainable partnerships and integrated services. Presentation given by Susan Franklin,Aging Well in Jefferson County Project Director.

Helping Elders to Age in the Community - Policy and Practice Strategies
Robyn Stone, noted researcher and leading international authority on aging and long-term care policy from LeadingAge, Center for Applied Research, discussed policy evolution, the integration of care coordination, the implications to the workforce and future trends.

One Away-Campaign for Elder Economic Security
See information on local advocacy partners for the economic security of elders, four things you can do and discussions on solutions to this issue. Presentation given by Marci Phillips.

Demographic Trends
See this presentation, given by Elizabeth Garner, State Demographer with the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, to understand the changing population in Jefferson County and its potential impacts.

Developing Clinical Services for the Aging Population in Jefferson County
David Myers, CEO, and Dr. Barry Martin, Vice President of Medical Affairs, both of the Metro Community Provider Network, presented this two-pronged discussion. First, they covered the Metro Community Provider Network service model of delivery and second, the idea of the medical home for seniors and others wtih complex health conditions.

Senior Living
The idea of a village model for senior living and the trends happening now were all part of this presentation given by the Aging Well in Jeffco Project Housing Workgroup members Dennis Dempsey, Donna Mullins and Arnie Snyder.
The village model for aging in community and the concerns around that model were within the presentation given by Arnie Snyder of Elder Life Advisors, LLC.

Volunteers with Impact and Purpose
The Aging Well in Jeffco Project Social and Civic Engagement Workgroup discussed volunteer engagement and new strategies for skilled volunteers and agencies together to engage in impactful, meaningful work. Presentation given by Sandie Eichberg.

Existing and Future Transportation Opportunities for Jefferson County Residents
Jeanne Erickson, Ambassador for United We Ride Coordination, presented information on accessing the transportation options and how coordinating these efforts is better for the aging population.
