Business Personal Property Inventory New Reporting

The Jefferson County Assessors Office is changing the way we describe business personal property and this change will affect the way you file your business personal property declaration schedule in 2009.   As of January 1, 2009, all business personal property will be described using standardized categories and sub-categories. The reason we are making this change is so that we can make it easier for businesses to file business personal property declaration schedules in the future.  It is our goal to make this process as efficient as possible and to be able to provide you the ability to file with us online through the internet.

What this means to you as a business personal property owner is this.  In January 2009 the personal property declaration schedule we send to you will be blank.  It will not have a list of the property you declared in 2008.  You will need to complete the blank schedule by listing your personal property items using the new categories and subcategories from the informational packet to describe the property and include the year purchased, number of units and total original installed cost.  Once we establish this baseline information in 2009, we will return to our practice of sending each owner a list of their prior year declaration in 2010 using the new categories and subcategories.
 
Enclosed is an informational packet which includes a list of the new categories and sub-categories and a sample of the inventory you reported to us in 2007.  We are not sending a business personal property declaration schedule at this time. It will be sent in January 2009.

What we are asking you to do now is to review and categorize your business personal property items with the new categories and sub-category names so that you will be prepared to complete the declaration schedule when it comes in January.

We are offering two Business Personal Property informational meetings to explain this process and provide the opportunity for questions and answers. They will be on Thursday, January 15th and Thursday, January 29th, both from 6:00pm to 9:00pm in Hearing Room One at the Courts and Administration Building at 100 Jefferson County Parkway Golden.
