1997 IPC Code Supplement

The Jefferson County Supplement to The 1997 International Plumbing Code

After due consideration, the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners hereby adopts and promulgates the 1997 Edition of the International Plumbing Code, with the following deletions and additions, the following items which will be known as the Jefferson County Supplement to the 1997 International Plumbing Code. The intent of this Code is to meet or exceed the requirements of the State of Colorado Plumbing Code. When technical requirements, specifications or standards in the Colorado Plumbing Code conflict, the more restrictive shall apply.

Sections 105.4 through 105.4.6  Alternate engineered design. Delete these sections in their entirety.

Sec. 106.5.2 of the Jefferson County Supplement to the 1997 International Plumbing Code is hereby deleted and the following is added:

Sec. 106.5.2 Permit Fees. The following Fee Table is to be used to determine the permit fees for all plumbing permits issued for work not in conjunction with an active building permit.

Sec.109 - Means of Appeal. Delete Section 109 in its entirety and substitute Section 105 of the Jefferson County Building Code.

Table 308.5 - Hangar Spacing. Delete reference to PB pipe or tubing.

Sec. 312.1 - Required Test. Delete last two sentences.

Sec. 312.4 - Drainage and Vent Final Test. Delete Section 312.4 in its entirety.

Sec. 312.9 - Inspection and Testing of Backflow Assemblies. Delete Section 312.9 in its entirety.

Sec. 403 - Minimum Number of Fixtures. Delete Section 403 and substitute as follows:

Sec. 403 - Minimum Number of Fixtures. The minimum number of plumbing fixtures will be as required in the Jefferson County Building Code, Appendix Chapter 29.

Table 403.1 - Minimum Number of Plumbing Facilities. Delete Table 403.1 in its entirety.

Sec. 404 - Accessible Plumbing Facilities. Delete Section 404 in its entirety.

Sec. 409.3 - Waste connection. Add Sentence: The discharge shall be through an approved air gap.

Sec. 604.3 - Water Distribution System Design Criteria. Delete Table 604.3 in its entirety.

Sec. 604.9 - Water Hammer. Delete Section 604.9 in its entirety.

Table 604.10.1 - Manifold Sizing. Delete Table 604.10.1 in its entirety.

Table 605.4 - Water Service Pipe. Delete Table 605.4 in its entirety.

Table 605.5 - Water Distribution Pipe. Delete reference to PEX, PEX-Al-PEX and PB pipe.

Sec. 605.18 - Polybutylene Pipe. Delete Sections 605.18, 605.18.1, 605.18.2 and 605.18.3 in their entirety.

Sec. 610 - Disinfection of Potable Water Systems. Delete Section 610 in its entirety.

Sec. 701.1 - Scope. Add sentence: Drainage piping shall be cast iron, galvanized steel, lead, copper, brass, Schedule 40 ABS-DWV, Schedule 40 PVC-DWV, glass or other approved material.

Sec. 702.1.2 - ABS and PVC piping shall be limited to three stories. Story is defined in Section 220 of the Jefferson County Building Code.

Sec. 702.1.3 - Copper tube for drainage and vent piping shall be not less than type DWV.

Table 702.1 - Above Ground Drainage and Vent Pipe. Delete reference to polyolefin pipe.

Table 702.2 - Underground Building Drainage and Vent Pipe. Delete reference to polyolefin pipe.

Sec. 702.3 - Building Sewer Pipe. Change reference to Table 702.2 to read Table 702.3.

Add the following section:

Sec. 705.14.7 - Expansion Joints. Expansion joints shall be accessible.

Table 706.3 - Fittings for Change in Direction. Delete reference to quarter bends.

Sec. 708.7 - Minimum Size. Delete exception.

Sec. 709.1 - Values for Fixtures. Delete reference to Table 710.1(2).

Table 710.1(1) - Building Drains and Sewers. Delete Table 710.1(1) in its entirety and substitute amended Table 710.1(1) as follows.

* The developed length between the trap of a water closet or similar fixture (measured from the top of the closet ring [closet flange] to the inner edge of the vent) and its vent shall not exceed six (6) feet.

Sec. 908.2 - Connection at the Same Level. Delete Section 908.2 and substitute as follows:

Sec. 909.1- Horizontal Wet Venting. Single bathroom groups  a single bathroom group of fixtures may be installed with the drain from an individually vented lavatory or lavatories serving as a wet vent for a bathtub, shower compartment, or floor drain and for a water closet provided the requirements listed below are met.

1. Not more than four fixture units drain into a minimum 2 inch diameter wet vent. Kitchen sinks, dishwashers, or automatic clothes washer connections are not permitted.

2. The horizontal branch drain connects to the stack at the same level as the water closet drain, or it may connect to the upper half of the horizontal portion of the water closet bend at an angle not greater than 45 degrees from the direction of flow.

Sec. 1002.4 - Trap Seals. Delete Section 1002.4 and substitute as follows:

Sec. 1002.4 - Trap Seals. Each fixture trap shall have a liquid seal not less than 2 inches or more than 4 inches. Where a trap seal is subject to loss by evaporation, a trap seal primer valve shall be installed.

Sec. 1201.2 - Fuel Piping Systems. Delete Section 1201.2 and substitute as follows:

Sec. 1201.2 - Fuel Piping Systems. All fuel piping systems shall be sized, installed, tested and placed in operation in accordance with the requirements of the 1997 Uniform Mechanical Code, Chapter 13, Fuel-Gas Piping.

The following Appendix Chapters to the International Plumbing Code, 1997 Edition, are hereby adopted and enforced by Jefferson County, Colorado. No other appendix chapters are adopted.

Appendix Chapter B - Rates of Rainfall for Various Cities.

Appendix Chapter D - Degree Day and Design Temperatures for Cities in the United States.

Appendix Chapter F - Structural Safety.
