Colorado Works/Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

Colorado’s TANF program, also known as Colorado Works, provides cash assistance to eligible low-income Colorado resident families, and pregnant women. The amount of financial aid provided is based on family size, income, resources and ages of the children.

TANF recipients may receive benefits for no longer than 60 months. During this 60 month time limit, participants are required to participate in work activities and cooperate with Child Support Enforcement.

To get started, our office must receive a completed Application for Assistance, including:

Proof of monthly income
Social Security numbers for all household members
Proof of pregnancy (if applicable)
Proof of residence
Valid Colorado ID
Proof of lawful presence and a signed affidavit for applicants 18 years and older

Once the application is received, an appointment is scheduled for an interview with an Intake Program Specialist to determine eligibility. Applicants are assessed during the interview and a determination is made on what supportive services will best assist the family in reaching their self sufficiency goals. The applicant may qualify for a State or County Diversion which assists in meeting immediate needs.
