Military Personnel
Do you have questions regarding how deployment affects your child support? Here is information to help your family during your time of deployment:
- If your support payments are being withheld from your paycheck, we can transfer withholding to the Department of Defense on a timely basis to prevent or minimize missed payments. The information you provide to your employer from your orders and deployment letter will assist us in making these changes. Also, ask your current employer to notify us of your last day of employment, date and amount of your last paycheck, dependents currently enrolled in health insurance and what date coverage will end.
- If your child support order includes health care coverage we may be able to assist you in signing up your child with DEERS (the medical enrollment system for the Department of Defense).
- If you have a child support hearing scheduled, we can try to hold the hearing sooner or let the court or hearing officer know about your service status.
Remember-If you owe $5,000.00 or more in past-due child support, your passport will be withheld until you make arrangements for paying off this debt.
- Any parents who need free or reduced legal advice about issues relating to military deployment should send an e-mail to RESERVELEGAL@COBAR.ORG.
