501(c)(3) Partnerships
?Crime prevention programs are a priority for the District Attorney?s Office. One of the best ways to promote community safety is to teach our citizens how to protect themselves from becoming crime victims. We maintain 501(c)(3) status for our prevention programs, enabling us to form community partnerships which share the costs of these programs.?
District Attorney?s Community Partnership 501(c)(3)
From District Attorney Scott Storey
Community safety is one of the roles of the District Attorney?s Office. While most of our resources are focused on the prosecution of those who violate state law, considering rising crime rates and jail and prison overcrowding, I also believe that we in the criminal justice system need to focus more resources at the front end of the criminal justice system.
One of the best ways of protecting our community is to prevent our citizens from becoming victims of crime in the first place. For this reason, we have developed two very effective crime prevention programs. One program addresses fraud and identity theft, and the other is aimed at protecting our kids who are on the Internet.
Shrinking government budgets often allow us to do only what we are mandated to do. In response, we created a community partnership with 501(c)(3) status, which qualifies us as a tax-exempt, non-profit organization and allows us to accept charitable contributions. Since August 2006, our District Attorney?s Community Partnership has raised $15,292 in support of our crime prevention programs. By seeking business and individual community partners to join with us in our fraud prevention efforts, relationships are created that give citizens ownership in their government.
