DA Legislative Agenda 2009
District Attorney Scott Storey joined Colorado District Attorneys, Attorney General John Suthers, law enforcement executives and victim advocates in announcing their 2009 legislative agenda at a news conference on Thursday, January 15.
District Attorneys from across the state and 30 uniformed officers stood united on the steps of the State Capitol to deliver their simple message, ?The safety of our communities cannot be sacrificed regardless of the economic challenges and budget deficit we face.?
Jefferson County District Attorney Scott Storey, who is also president of the Colorado District Attorney?s Council (CDAC), told those gathered, ?Public Safety is an essential function of government. We understand that these are difficult economic times but we cannot discount the correlation between a poor economy and crime rates.?
While there was agreement that this legislative session will be difficult, the DAs and other law enforcement executives insist that decisions regarding public safety must be based on fact and evidence, to help ensure that community safety comes first.
Items on the agenda include important issues such as the preservation and retention of DNA, Cold Case resources, Death Penalty, Identity Theft, Internet Sex offenses, crime prevention, anti-recidivism efforts, and law enforcement training for small and rural jurisdictions.
District Attorney Storey and Ted Tow, the Executive Director of the Colorado District Attorney?s Council (CDAC), 303-830-9115, are valuable resources for the community, the media, and legislators on these and other important public safety issues.
