Restitution
Victims of crime have a right to obtain restitution from defendants. We provide assistance in this area by screening cases for victims who have suffered monetary losses. Victims receive a letter and an affidavit of loss from this office, which they may fill out and return. When an affidavit of loss is returned to this office, a Motion and Order for Restitution is produced and is placed in the defendant's file where it is kept ready to be presented to the Judge at sentencing. Once restitution is ordered, the responsibility for collection of the restitution lies with the judicial department.
