On-Call and Call-Off Program for Witnesses
A witness can be placed "on-call" for a jury trial by letting the Victim/Witness Unit know how long it will take him/her to get to the Administration and Courts Building and by leaving a phone number where he/she can be reached. This enables the witness to appear only when needed instead of waiting around for hours or days to testify. Police officers are automatically "on-call" for jury trials. Victim/Witness Specialists and Assistants regularly "call-off" witnesses when cases are resolved or continued. Therefore, the witnesses do not have to make unwarranted trips to the Administration and Courts Building. This policy not only minimizes inconvenience for the police officer, but also allows the officer to stay on the street while on duty or stay at home on his/her day off. The result is thousands of dollars saved in down time and overtime.
