The First Judicial District Attorney's Office is responsible for prosecuting all state criminal offenses occurring in Jefferson and Gilpin counties, amounting to about 3,600 felony cases, 7,600 misdemeanor cases, 1,000 juvenile cases and about 22,000 traffic violations and other infractions each year. The District Attorney maintains an office in Golden, Jefferson County, and another much smaller office in Black Hawk, Gilpin County.
