Gordon Moench charged in shooting of two police agents

Gorden Lee Moench, DOB: 7-15-59, appeared in Jefferson County court today where he was advised of the charges filed against him in the shooting of two Lakewood police agents on July 5, 2014. The District Attorney filed the following counts:

    • 3 counts Attempted First Degree Murder – after deliberation (F2)
    • 3 counts Attempted First Degree Murder – extreme indifference (F2)
    • 4 counts First Degree Assault (F3)
    • 10 counts of Crime of Violence (sentence enhancer)

On July 5, in response to two seperate 911 calls, Lakewood police agents were dispatched to 9740 W. Jewell Place. According to court records, when police arrived Gordon Moench was outside the residence, in the back of his truck, armed with three firearms. The first police agent arrived in his marked patrol car and was slowing in preparation to stop a few houses west of 9740 W. Jewell when the agent was shot through the windshield.

After the first police agent was shot, court records say that a second police agent was approaching Gordon Moench when she was also shot and collapsed onto the sidewalk.

A third police agent then encountered Gordon Moench, who was walking down the middle of the street carrying a .44 Magnum handgun. The agent ordered him several times to drop the gun, however Mr. Moench failed to comply. As Mr. Moench lifted the gun, the agent fired and shot him. Moench was transported to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Both of the police agents survived their injuries.

Moench has until July 24 to schedule a preliminary hearing. He is being held on $2M cash bond
