Kenneth Hosch Arrested on Suspicion of Vehicular Homicide of Sgt. Dave Baldwin

Kenneth Martin Hosch, 83, of Golden, was arrested today on suspicion of Vehicular Homicide (F4) and Criminally Negligent Homicide (F5) for causing the death of Jefferson County Sheriff’s Sergeant Dave Baldwin in January.

On Sunday, January 26, just after 10:00 a.m., Kenneth Hosch was driving southbound on Highway 93, approaching 68th Avenue. According to court records, Hosch was traveling at a high rate of speed when he drove up behind a car which was traveling southbound directly in front him. He passed this car in an aggressive manner. This pass was made in a legal passing zone, where the center line was a yellow dashed line.

Mr. Hosch is alleged to have failed to return to the legal southbound lane of travel. He continued traveling southbound, but he remained to the left of the center yellow line. Mr. Hosch continued driving southbound on the wrong side of the road for approximately 1,500 feet. Multiple witnesses observed Hosch driving on the wrong side of the road at a high rate of speed.

Sergeant Baldwin was on duty that morning. He was driving his department motorcycle northbound on Hwy. 93 when he was struck head-on by the car driven by Mr. Hosch.

Sargeant Baldwin died of injuries sustained in the collision.

According to court records, witnesses estimate that Mr. Hosch was traveling 70-79 mph just before the collision.

Mr. Hosch was arrested today. Bond has been set in the amount of $10,000.
