Massage Therapist Sentenced To Jail And Sex Offender Probation

Sean Michael VanDerAa, 36, of Thornton, was in Jefferson County District Court today to be sentenced for sexually touching eleven women during massage therapy sessions. He was sentenced to eight years Sex Offender Intensive Supervision Probation (SOISP) with 300 days in the Jefferson County Jail Work Release Program. The imposition of the jail work release sentence was stayed until March 7 at 5:00 p.m. VanDerAa must register as a sex offender.

VanDerAa was employed at Unified Health Group, 9660 Ralston Road, in Arvada when the first victim contacted Arvada Police in June 2013. The investigation uncovered eleven female victims ranging in age from 25 to 76. The victims had gone to VanDerAa for therapeutic massage for pain relief, stress relief and relaxation.

During massage sessions VanDerAa manipulated the hands of the victims, as they were lying on a massage table, so that they were cupping or touching his genitals. On more than one occasion VanDerAa had an erection during these sessions. He also touched the breasts of some clients as he provided massage.

On December 19, 2013, VanDerAa pled guilty to three counts: Unlawful Sexual Contact – At Risk Victim (F3); Unlawful Sexual Conact (F4), naming seven victims; and Unlawful Sexual Contact (M1) naming three victims.
