Michael McCoy Pleads Guilty to Vehicular Homicide on Hwy. 93

Michael Jerome McCoy, 22, was in Jefferson County District Court today where he entered a guilty plea to Vehicular Homicide (F4) in the death of 62-year-old Patricia J. Bybee in March, 2013.

On March 13, 2013, Patricia Bybee was driving southbound on Highway 93 between Boulder and Golden when her car was hit by McCoy, who was traveling northbound. McCoy was attempting to illegally pass a car in front of him, when he crossed over double yellow lines and hit the car driven by Mrs. Bybee. Following the collision, the speedometer in McCoy’s Subaru was stuck on 83 mph.

Mrs. Bybee died from her injuries.

McCoy was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries. Blood tests revealed trace amounts of marijuana in his system. Police found methamphetamine, ecstasy, and drug paraphernalia in his backpack.

Sentencing has been scheduled for April 18 at 1:00. A class four felony carries a potential prison sentence of up to 6 years.
