Youth Basketball Referee Sentenced for Unlawful Sexual Contact

A former girls’ basketball referee was in Jefferson County Court today to be sentenced for unlawful sexual touching of four student players during games. Stephen Amador, DOB: 1-20-61, of Lakewood, was sentenced to four years probation and 60 days jail in the Jefferson County Work Release Program.

In December, 2012 and January, 2013, at two different basketball games at Lakewood high schools, Amador unlawfully touched the breasts and buttocks of four different girls for sexual gratification.

During the three day trial in January, 2014, the victims testified about being touch by Amador during the games while they were on the basketball court. The Jefferson County jury found Amador guilty of nine counts of Unlawful Sexual Contact (M1).

At the sentencing hearing today, the court heard that the mandatory sex offender evaluation of Amador found that he was a moderate to high risk to reoffend. County Judge Susan Fisch said that she found Mr. Amador’s behavior to be an utter abuse of trust.

Amador must register as a sex offender.
