Zachary Snyder Sentenced to 10Y Prison for Vehicular Homicide

(April 18, 2014 – Golden, CO) Zachary Snyder, 23, was sentenced today to 10 years in prison for driving under the influence of alcohol and causing the collision which killed 65-year old Kenneth “Kacey” Mortensen and seriously injured his wife, Karin Mortensen, in October 2012.

Snyder had been drinking at a bar at 92nd and Wadsworth in Westminster on October 13, 2012. He was there for four hours before he left the bar, got into his car and pulled into traffic going east on 92nd. At the intersection of 92nd and Wadsworth Snyder failed to yield the right of way and turned left in front of the car driven by Karin Mortensen. Kacey Mortensen was in the passenger seat. Snyder had not turned on his headlights when he entered the roadway.

Snyder’s first blood draw showed a BAC of .304, almost four times the legal limit.

Snyder pled guilty to Vehicular Homicide (F3); Vehicular Assault (F4) and DUI on January 13, 2014. He was remanded to the custody of the Sheriff’s Department at the end of today’s hearing.
