    Lakewood Man Charged with Child Abuse Resulting in Death of Infant

    First Judicial District Attorney Pete Weir announced today that charges have been filed in the death of three-month-old Naomi Jones. Josiah Lamarr Jones, DOB/9-7-95, appeared in Jefferson County Court today where he was advised that he has been charged with three counts, including Child Abuse Resulting in Death (F2); Child Abuse (F3); and Violation of a Protection Order (M1).

    On March 3, 2016 Lakewood police were called to 5353 W. 16th where they found Naomi Jones unresponsive. She was transported to Denver Health Medical Center and then transferred to Childrens’ Hospital Colorado. She died on March 6.

    According to the arrest affidavit:
    • Doctors who treated Naomi at Denver Health Medical Center told investigators that Naomi had suffered intracranial hemorrhage, skull fracture, bilateral subdural hematoma, and traumatic brain injury.
    • Josiah Jones was the sole caregiver for the child and was the only other person at the home when police arrived. Mr. Jones’ mother told police that Mr. Jones got custody of Naomi one month prior to this incident through a voluntary action with Department of Human Services.
    • Mr. Jones and had been in a difficult relationship with the child’s mother, Nicole Jones, according to court records. He had been served with a restraining order in January, 2016, which prohibited him from having communication with Nicole Jones. According to the affidavit, Josiah had continued to have contact with Nicole through Facebook and text messaging.

    Josiah Jones was arrested on December 2, 2016. He is being held at the Jefferson County jail on $100,000 cash-only bond. He has until December 13 to schedule a preliminary hearing.
