  • Problem-Solving Courts

Problem-solving courts are designed to accommodate offenders with unique needs and problems that were not or could not be adequately addressed in established courts. Using innovative approaches to dealing with specific problems, including drug abuse and mental health issues, these courts seek to promote outcomes that will benefit not only the offender, but the victim and society as well.

Problem-solving courts offer alternatives to prison and the traditional judicial process to help the justice system better respond to the needs of certain offenders and the community. They share the common elements of focus on outcomes, judicial involvement, and collaboration.

Early results from studies show that these types of courts are having a positive impact on the lives of offenders and their victims; and in some instances, are saving jail and prison costs.
