Victim and Witness Assistance
The Victim and Witness Assistance Unit helps crime victims by providing information about the criminal justice system, restitution and compensation and by referring victims to agencies and organizations that can help them get through their ordeal. The unit also provides direct trial support services to the deputy district attorneys.
Victim and Witness (VW) Center
The center, located in room 1070 on the first floor of the Administration and Courts Building, is responsible for trial coordination, front-desk operations and the on-call, county court victim-and-witness and fast-track domestic violence programs.
The center is a hub of activity for prosecutors and all victims and witnesses who appear in court. Witnesses check in at the VW center and wait in pleasant surroundings until they are needed in court.
The "on-call" and "call-off" systems are used extensively, helping witnesses avoid making unwarranted trips to, and waiting long periods at, the courthouse to testify in jury trials. The center is staffed full time from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
