Jefferson County has 10 elected officials: three members of the Board of County Commissioners, the Assessor, Clerk and Recorder, Coroner, District Attorney, Sheriff, Surveyor and Treasurer. The public trustee is appointed by the governor for a four-year term.

The Assessor's Office assigns values to county real estate and personal property, both taxable and tax-exempt, as the basis for property taxes set by various taxing authorities. Property owners are advised of each assessment and may appeal through a review process. The tax roll is prepared each December. |
