2012 voter information cards in the mail

(Golden) – Today, Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder Pam Anderson announces that voters should expect updated 2012 voter information cards to arrive in their mailboxes early next week. The cards contain information regarding voter registration, voting districts, precinct polling places, service center locations and mail-in ballot drop-off locations.

By law, voter information cards are not required to be sent out until Oct. 12, but it has been the practice in Jefferson County to send this information out early, which will better prepare voters for the Nov. 6 Presidential Election.

“We like to get this mailing out to voters early because it gives us an opportunity to provide them with information well ahead of time, which improves overall awareness,” Anderson said. “It provides quite a bit of information for voters, so it’s something they should definitely keep an eye out for, and hold onto once they get it,” she added.

The Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder also wants to make the public aware that this mailing may coincide with a mailing sent by the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office to people who may not be current registered voters. The Secretary of State’s Office is sending a mailing next week aimed at encouraging those who may not yet be registered to vote to do so in time for the Presidential Election.

“In some households where people who are not registered are living with registered voters, the state’s mailing may cause confusion,” said Anderson. “We want to reassure voters that if they receive a voter information card from us, they are indeed registered to vote. We also want to encourage individuals who are not registered to do so by visiting GoVoteColorado.com before Oct. 9 to get registered,” she added.

To register to vote online, individuals can visit GoVoteColorado.com. Paper voter registration forms can also be printed from that site, or obtained by calling the Jefferson County Elections Division at (303) 271-8111. Voters can also verify their registration status on the same website.
