Frequently Asked Questions about Special District Elections

     Q. What is a Special District Election?

    A.  Special Districts are entities that provide services such as fire, sanitation, water or parks & recreation districts.  The directors of special districts are typically elected in May.  Districts may also put tax or other questions on the ballot.  Spring Special District elections are conducted by the district, not by the Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder.

    Q. How can I register to vote or update my voter information for Special District Elections?

    A. Visit www.GoVoteColorado.com to register to vote or update your information online.

    Q. Will I automatically get a ballot?

    A. The Special District decides whether to hold their election by mail or at polling places.  You may be eligible if you are a registered voter in the district or own property. If your district is holding a polling place election and you wish to receive a mail ballot, you must request a ballot from your district.

    Q. Will I get more than one ballot?

    A. You may receive a ballot for each district in which you are eligible if they are conducting a mail ballot election, or if you request to receive a ballot.

    Q. If I receive a mail ballot how do I return it?

    A.  You can return your ballot by mail, in-person, or at designated ballot drop-off boxes.  Your Special District will include a list of drop-off locations in your ballot instructions. You may mail in your ballot as long as the district receives it by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.

    Q.  Which Special Districts are holding elections?

    A.  A list of Special Districts holding elections this May is located at the bottom of this FAQ.

    Q. Who do I contact for more information?

    A. Contact the Special District directly with your specific elections questions.
