Open Riding
Open Riding is permitted in all outdoor arenas and the Event Center, (indoor arena). Riding hours vary; however, there is typically an open arena to use between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm. Monday - Thursday. (Open riding is only allowed if the respective arena is not previously reserved for an event). The Fairgrounds reserves the right to schedule an event at any time. Riders must follow all open riding rules while using the arenas. Our events calendar can change with little or no notice, so it is always advisable to contact us before loading up to come to the Fairgrounds.
Event Center (indoor arena)
Besides the daily Open Riding based on availability in the Event Center; there is scheduled Open Riding on Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm year round. During the winter season, October 15 - April 15, there will be monitors on Thursday evenings to help manage the Open Riding activities because of the increased use during this time period. An honor system fee of $5.00 per rider is recommended to help offset operating costs of this facility. This fee is collected by a self-service system via a collection container located immediately inside the main door.
Outdoor Arenas: (Silver Spur, Table View, and Rodeo Arenas)
These arenas are generally available Monday - Thursday, 8:00 am - dusk for Open Riding, unless there is a prior event scheduled in the respective arena. Friday - Sunday times are generally less available for Open Riding, however, you still may be able to find time to ride. *These arena surfaces will be used "as is", for Open Riding; grooming and watering of arena surface is not guaranteed prior to your use for riding.
Open Riding Rules
- Use proper pleasure riding etiquette at all times, to include using common courtesy with all other riders.
- It is the responsibility of the more experienced riders to "watch out" for the novice riders and children.
- Children must be supervised by a parent/guardian at all times.
- Riding/behavior lessons are not allowed during Open Riding. Commercial trainers need to contact the Fairgrounds office to schedule facility use for lessons.
- Alcoholic beverages are not allowed at any time during Open Riding.
- Dogs are not allowed in the arena during Open Riding.
- Lunging, roping, barrel racing, jumping, trick riding, racing, and similar activities are prohibited during Open Riding.
- Horses must be tied to provided hitching rails located outside the arena railing.
- The rail is for horses being ridden; mounting, dismounting, conversations, etc need to take place in the middle of the arena or outside the arena.
- Anyone not on horseback must be outside the arena railing.
- All riders are responsible for cleanup of their horses, all manure is to be placed in provided bins located near arenas.
- Stallions are prohibited in the arena during Open Riding.
