Stop the Spread of Germs
Stop the Spread of Germs . . .
Help prevent the flu and other respiratory diseases
Serious respiratory illnesses are spread by coughing and sneezing and by unclean hands: flu (Influenza); respiratory syncytial virus (RSV); whooping cough (pertussis).
Simple precautions can help limit the spread of flu and other respiratory diseases.
Minimize Your Risk:
- Wash hands with warm water and soap frequently
- Cover mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick, if possible
To Stay Healthy:
- Clean hands often with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick, if possible.
- Get vaccinations for flu and pneumonia as recommended for your age and health conditions.
- Stay up to date on immunizations and get a flu shot or new nasal flu vaccine mist.
Help Stop the Spread of Germs When You're Sick:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue every time you cough or sneeze. Throw the used tissue in a wastebasket.
- If you don't have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve, not into your hands.
- After coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose, always clean your hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Do not share eating utensils, drinking glasses, towels or other personal items.
Precautions To Take at a Clinic or Hospital:
- You may be asked to wear a mask to protect others.
- Don't worry if you see staff and other people wearing masks. They are preventing the spread of disease.
- Do not visit a friend or relative who is hospitalized if you are ill.
