Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARs)

What is Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome?
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating a new disease called severe acute respiratory syndrome or SARS. The disease was first reported among people in southern China, Vietnam, and Hong Kong. It has since spread to other countries, including the United States. SARS has recently been shown to be caused by a strain of a virus, called coronavirus, that has not previously been detected in humans.

What are the symptoms of SARS?
In general, SARS begins with a fever greater than 100.4F. Other early symptoms may include chills, headache, and muscle aches. This is followed by the development of respiratory symptoms such as a dry cough and possibly difficulty breathing.
