Nutrition Services - Education & Counseling
Healthy eating habits and good nutrition can improve quality of life and help prevent illness and premature death.
The Nutrition Education and Counseling Program works with Jefferson County residents to improve their nutrition knowledge and increase their ability to make better food choices.
Services Include:
- Providing relevant and age appropriate nutrition education in the schools.
- Preventive education and therapeutic nutrition services for individuals and groups at risk of coronary heart disease, certain types of cancer, stroke, diabetes mellitus, and coronary artery disease.
- Collaboration with other agencies and nutrition programs.
- Ongoing coordination of efforts to improve access to appropriate quality food resources to reduce hunger.
- Promotion of public health nutrition issues to increase community awareness.
