Coal Mine Avenue (Pierce to Sheridan) Conceptual Design
This conceptual design was prepared in 2006, concurrently with Arapahoe County's study of Coal Mine Avenue east of Sheridan.  The study recommended beginning improvements at Marshall Court where the roadway will transition to the east to five lanes.  Continuing east, the 5 lane roadway would transition to three lanes near Jay Drive.  From Harlan Street to Sheridan the study recommended widening to the south only to provide three lanes.  Both Jeffco and Arapahoe County determined that immediate widening of Coal Mine is not necessary.  At this time, Jeffco does not have a Coal Mine Avenue project, between Pierce and Sheridan, in the 5-year project plan (which is reevaluated every year).  If widening of this section of Coal Mine Avenue becomes necessary, public open houses will be held as part of the final design phase.

In the meantime, both counties will use their studies to help determine where developers should build their adjacent public roadway improvements.

Quincy Avenue Corridor Study
The Quincy Corridor Study was completed in 2006.  As we progress to the final design for each segment described below, public open houses will be held again to keep the surrounding neighborhoods informed, and to solicit their input on the specifics of the designs.  The plans, split into segments, can be viewed via the links in the table below.  The report contains the conceptual design data analysis, alternatives analysis and meeting minutes.

*Eldridge Street to Nelson Street Segment Alternatives
During the conceptual design, two alternatives were developed for the Eldridge St. to Nelson St. segment.   A consensus could not be reached about which alternative should be the "Preferred Alternative."  When it becomes necessary to construct this segment, both alternatives, described below, will be presented to the community and reviewed again, before proceeding with final design.

The "5-Lane Alternative" has two through lanes in each direction with a painted continuous left-turn lane in the center.  This alternative requires more right-of-way and has more impacts to the adjacent property owners, but it does provide full-movement access at every existing cross street with Quincy.

The "-Lane Alternative" has one through lane in each direction with a raised median.  This alternative requires less right-of-way, but it restricts the access to many of the side streets to just right-in/right-out.

Wadsworth Blvd. Corridor Study (92nd to 110th)
This study, completed in 2005, includes the future roadway alignment, necessary right-of-way acquisitions, major utility relocations, conceptual structure designs and project cost estimates (broken into logical, fundable segments), for use by the county and city in budgeting future capital improvement projects along the corridor.

Other goals of the study included planning a roadway facility that improves safety, improves capacity for future traffic needs, meets city of Westminster and Jefferson County design standards, improves deficient intersections and upgrades pedestrian facilities.

Jefferson County Road 73 Corridor Study
Jefferson County Road 73 suffers from a number of deficiencies and safety problems. To meet the travel needs of the residents and businesses along the JC 73 corridor of Jefferson County, it is necessary to improve access and accommodate growing traffic volume. This study, completed in 2005, studied safety, capacity, and access control for the entire 8.5 miles of the corridor under existing and future traffic conditions, and made recommendations for improvements.

Design Projects Page and for infomation on segments being designed and constructed.

Main Street Extension Feasibility Study
An extension of Main Street, linking Conifer Center with Aspen Park, has been a part of the Conifer/285 Corridor Area Community Plan since 1987. This study evaluated the need, feasibility, and cost for alternative locations.

Golden Road Corridor Study
In November 2004 the County evaluated the traffic operations and safety characteristics of South Golden Road from Ulysses Street to Indiana Street within unincorporated Jefferson County. The corridor study focused on surveying cultural resources, evaluating current traffic and safety conditions, and looking at long-term needs for the South Golden Road corridor.

Chatfield Avenue Corridor Study
In December 2004, a corridor study was completed for West Chatfield Avenue between South Kendall Boulevard and West Ken Caryl Avenue to establish a conceptual corridor improvement plan and phasing of the improvement projects.
The study recommended widening the arterial to four lanes with median and turn lanes as appropriate.

Wide Acres Neighborhood Traffic Study
The citizens from the Wide Acres Neighborhood asked the Jefferson County Division of Highways and Transportation to look at some options to mitigate the possibility of increased traffic in the Wide Acres Neighborhood associated with the new Colorado Mills Mall. The operational study included the area south of Colfax Avenue, north of Wide Acres Road and east of Hawthorne Road.

32nd Avenue Corridor Study
This Safety and Operational Study completed in 1999 identifies traffic issues on 32nd Avenue west of I-70. Findings included the need for improved traffic control at 32nd Avenue/Eldridge Street, need for left-turn lanes at Eldridge Street and Indiana Street, and an overall need for improved roadway capacity and traffic safety. The Board of County Commissioners directed staff to proceed with the design and construction of the roundabout at the 32nd Avenue/Eldridge Street intersection and to incorporate a three-lane roadway with paved shoulders template into the Major Thoroughfare Plan.
McIntyre Street (32nd Avenue to 64th Avenue)
This study, completed in 1999, reviewed traffic operation and safety characteristics for the 3.5 mile segment of McIntyre Street between 32nd Avenue and 64th Avenue.
