Golden Gate Roadway Improvements (Grange)
Project Scope: Within Golden Gate Canyon Road the County identified several areas for improvement last year based on safety of the traveling public, lack of raodway shoulders, and lack of clear zone for existing structures. The curve adjacent to the Grange was identified as an area needing improvements.
The existing curve is a tight s-curve with five access points. The County is proposing to reduce the access points from five to three. In addition the County will be increasing the existing curve radius from 75 feet to 150 feet. Increasing the radius of the curve will require the County to move the road to the southwest toward the creek. Also there is an exisitng rock culvert with inadequate headwalls that are located within the safe clear zone. Since the existing headwalls are made of rock, proper guardrail attachments are not possible. The County is proposing to provide a new culvert vault that will connect the three culverts and remove the existing hazard of the headwall and the steep drop off that exists behind the headwall.
This project is being designed by Jefferson County staff. Construction is anticipated to cost $200,000 and will be funded through traffic impact fees collected for Golden Gate Canyon Road.
Progress Update: Public meeting for the Golden Gate projects was held on March 24, 2010. Design plans are 50% complete.
Project Schedule:
Design Start: November 2009 End: Fall 2010
Construction Start: Spring 2011 End: Summer 2011

Deer Creek Canyon Road Shoulder Widening
Project Scope: This project is a continuation of the Deer Creek Canyon Road shoulder widening project of 2008. Three areas of Deer Creek Canyon Road are targeted for shoulder widening. The western most part is a 400 foot section in the Phillipsburg area; the central portion is an 1800 foot section between Phillipsburg and Grizzly Drive; the eastern portion is a 1500 section west of south Owens Street. These sections of Deer Creek Canyon Road are narrow, where shoulders are virtually non-existent. Safety will be greatly enhanced in these areas by adding a four-foot wide shoulder to the north side and a section of guardrail on the south side where Deer Creek converges with the roadway.
The project is being funded by Jefferson County and is anticipated to cost approximately $400,000.
Project Update: Design plans are 100 percent complete.
Project Progress: Finalizing access permit/license agreement with Xcel Energy.
Project Schedule:
Design Start: March2010 End: Complete
Construction Start: October 2010 End: April 2011
Project Manager: Contact John Conn with Jefferson County at 303.271.8496 or jconn@jeffco.us if you have questions or concerns.

North Coon Creek at Miller Street Culvert Replacement
Project Scope: This project will result in the removal of an existing 36 inch diameter culvert crossing South Miller Street and replacing it with a 4 foot by 12 foot concrete box culvert. This project requirement was identified during the 2008 Dutch Creek, Coon Creek, Lilley Gulch and Three Lakes Tributary Major Drainageway Planning & Flood Hazard Area Delineation Study. The existing culvert is totally inadequate to accommodte the major rainfall events. If the existing culvert were left in place it could result in the flooding of a nearby home and the overtopping of Miller Street with flood waters. Should Miller Street breach, the downstream flooding could be catastrophic to residences and an assisted care living center.
The project costs are being shared by Jefferson County and Urban Drainage and Flood Control District. The project is anticipated to cost approximately $350,000.
