McIntyre Outfall at Swamp Angel Detention Basin
Fact Sheet- July 6, 2010
Project Overview:
Urban Drainage Flood Control District (UDFCD) and Jefferson County contracted design services with Olsson Associates to develop the plans to increase the storage capacity of Swamp Angel Detention Pond and thus help alleviate drainage problems in the Fairmount area.
What Is Being Constructed?
The Swamp Angel Pond is located southwest of McIntyre Street and 50th Avenue in the Coors Technology Center. A portion of McIntyre Street between 50th Avenue and Table Mountain Parkway will be raised, and the western portion of the pond bottom will be excavated to increase the stormwater storage capacity from 26 acre-feet to 53 acre-feet. Storm sewer will be constructed in McIntyre Street between Table Mountain Parkway and the Croke Canal to transport the runoff into the Clear Creek drainage system.
What Has Been Done So Far?
- The contractor has completed lowering the north end of the pond. Seeding and the installation of plant materials has started.
- McIntyre Street between 48th and 50th Avenues has been raised and is open on the east side to detour traffic.
- The contractor has completed the installation of the 24" storm pipe system in McIntyre Street and patching of the roadway has started.
Construction of Storm Sewer
What is coming up?
- The contractor continues the installation of the 24" storm pipe system from McIntyre Street west to the outlet structure.
- Installation of the Mount Olivet irrigation collection system will be installed.
- During the milling and paving of the southbound lanes of McIntyre Street, the Table Mountain Parkway entrance to Coors Technology Center will remain closed until mid-July. The traffic has been shifted to a detour in the northbound lanes through this section of roadway.
- The contractor will start grading the east side driveways that are connected to McIntyre Street, and place the final lift of pavement on the total project by late July.
- Work will resume on the excavation of the south end of the pond during July. Work will, also, include the construction of the outlet and sediment basin structures in this area.
- Please expect some delays. Finding an alternate route to your destination is suggested.

Chatfield Avenue (South Yukon Way to Everett Street) - Phase II
Project Update: July 28, 2010
Road Closure Notice!
Project Scope: The West Chatfield Avenue Phase II project will make roadway and drainage improvements along Chatfield Avenue from South Yukon Street to South Everett Way.
The purpose of this project is to implement improvements, based on the conceptual design in the Chatfield Corridor Study (2004). Varying widths of right-of-way and easements have been acquired to supplement the existing right-of-way. The project is funded with Southeast Jefferson County One-Half Cent Sales Tax District revenues. The project has been awarded to Premier Paving, Inc.
Design Plans: Chatfield Avenue Plans
Progress Update: Final design complete.
What has been done so far?
Meadowbrook Fairview Water and Sanitation District’s contractor, JBS Pipeline, continues to relocate water lines in preparation for the roadway construction.
Jefferson County’s contractor, Premier Paving, Inc. (PPI) has constructed and paved a temporary by-pass road on the north side of West Chatfield Avenue from South Dover Street to South Dudley Street.
PPI is also removing fences and beginning some grading work along the West Chatfield Avenue properties.
Xcel Energy is in the process of relocating utility poles and relocating natural gas lines.

What is planned for next month?
- For the remainder of July, PPI will continue to work in the vicinity of South Dudley Street to prepare for installation of a large concrete box culvert.
- Once the bypass road has lane striping, traffic will be shifted to the bypass road so utilities (water, sanitary sewer, natural gas, and electric) in this area can be relocated and the box culvert work can proceed. It is anticipated that setting the box culvert will begin in late July.
- Xcel Energy gas and electrical crews will also be working throughout the construction area relocating gas lines and setting new utility poles.
- The roadway contractor will also be working in other areas of the construction site performing asphalt removal, grading, and placement of new curb, gutter, and sidewalk while the utility work is proceeding in the vicinity of South Dudley Street.
- There will be significant construction in this section of West Chatfield Avenue. Traffic control devices, (signs, barrels, cones, and temporary striping) will help guide motorists through the construction zone. Due to the congested work area, please drive slowly and expect delays. Alternate routes are strongly suggested.

Plainview Road Over Coal Creek - Bridge Repair Project

Project Scope: Plainview Road is located west of State Highway 93 and north of State Highway 72, just before Coal Creek Canyon. Repairs are planned for the deck and concrete girders, as years of poor drainage have deteriorated the surfaces. New bridge rail will be added and guardrail will be extended to improve vehicle safety along the sides. Finally, the erosive effects of poor drainage from the edges of the bridge at the abutments and wing walls will be improved by adding concrete run-downs called "embankment protectors".
Jefferson County is using the design and construction oversight services of Lonco, Inc., a well-known bridge design frim in the Denver area. Repair work is expected to advertise for bids in early May, and follow through with a targeted construction period of July through early September.
Work will be conducted so that one-half of the bridge is repaired at a time. As a result, traffic will be restricted to one lane crossing the bridge at all times. Signs and barriers will direct drivers safely around the work zones.
The funds for the bridge repairs will be coming from the new FASTER fees charged for vehicle registrations. The project is expected to cost less than $250,000.
Project Update: Contract has been awarded to ABCO Construction. Contractor is expected to begin in August, 2010, and continue through the end of September.
Project Schedule:
Design Start: Fall 2009 End: May 2010
Advertise for Construction Bids Start: May 2010 End: July 2010
Construction Start: August 2010 End: Sept 2010
