Construction |
| Transportation |

Engineering |
Transportation/Traffic staff provides long-range transportation planning for the county transportation system. We also maintain and manage day-to-day traffic operations, such as traffic signals, signage, striping and safety operations. We focus on addressing reported traffic concerns, as well as preventative maintenance to maximize safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. We strive to promote and ensure a safe and efficient transportation system for all users.
Special Projects staff manages the design of arterial roadway capital improvement projects. The design process includes extensive public meetings and involvement to insure that the design meets the needs of the general traveling public, and is sensitive to the adjacent neighborhoods and the environment. The designs may be conceptual (corridor studies) for planning and budgeting purposes, or final designs for construction.
Design staff includes engineers, surveyors, drafters and right-of-way agents, who design projects to be constructed by Road & Bridge, manage drainageway planning and stabilization projects, acquire right of way, and investigate and respond to drainage concerns and project requests.
Construction Engineering staff includes inspectors and construction engineers who manage and inspect roadway and drainage projects in Jefferson County. The section has two groups. The construction inspection group oversees utility repairs and upgrades in existing streets, as well as new private development infrastructure construction, including storm sewer, sidewalks, roads and traffic signs. The contract construction group oversees construction of county initiated capital improvement projects such as road widening, bridge replacement, drainage channel stabilization and traffic safety improvements.
