The federally funded program for low-income families promotes school readiness of children by enhancing their cognitive, social and emotional development. A wide range of individualized services are provided in the areas of education, early childhood development, medical, dental, mental health, nutrition, family support, and parent involvement. Every effort is made to meet a family's needs by accessing support from outside agencies if necessary.

Jefferson County Head Start serves 406 children and their families who reside in Jefferson County excluding the city of Lakewood. The program is part of Jefferson County government and is under the Department of Human Services. Children must be at least 3, but not yet 5 years old by October 1st. To be eligible for the program, families must meet income guidelines. Families who receive TANF, SSI, are homeless, and children in foster or kinship care are also eligible. We welcome children with special needs. Limited transportation services are available.
