You can join the movement to build brighter childhoods for children across Jefferson County and throughout Colorado. We all play a role in preventing child abuse and neglect. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse, and promote the well-being of children and families. Jefferson County, in partnership with communities across the state, commemorates National Child Abuse Prevention Month, beginning April 1, with the following activities: Throughout April, all month, everywhere! Pinwheels for Prevention Pinwheels for Prevention is a national awareness campaign that puts a new spin on prevention. Participate by planting your own pinwheel garden, get creative with informational pinwheel bouquets, integrate pinwheels into other events, or come up with an idea of your own! April 3rd, from 12pm to 1:15pm at Colorado State Capitol Panel on Child Abuse Prevention at the Colorado Children's Caucus Join us for the Colorado Children's Caucus! The Colorado Children's Caucus provides a forum for all members of the Colorado General Assembly to discuss the challenges facing Colorado youth and work together to develop policy recommendations to strengthen families and improve the lives of children. April 4th, from 11am to 12pm at Colorado State Capitol Child Abuse Prevention Month Kickoff & Rally Join us on April 4th as child advocates from across Colorado come together to kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month. At the event, we celebrate the proclamation of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, and featured speakers highlight the importance of supporting families and preventing child maltreatment. Wear blue to show your commitment to preventing child abuse! Read more. April 7th, all day, everywhere! National Wear Blue Day Show your support for preventing child abuse and building brighter childhoods across the U.S. by wearing blue in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Don't forget to post pictures on social media using the hashtags #WearBlueCO #greatchildhoods #CAPMonth #CO4Kids #CAPinCO. Opening Weekend - Sunday, April 9th starting at 1:10pm at Coors Field Colorado Rockies Game for Child Abuse Prevention Month Show how much Colorado values our children with a day of fun, family, pinwheels, and cheering on the Colorado Rockies! A portion of each ticket sold will further efforts in Colorado to prevent child maltreatment and build brighter childhoods. Read more and purchase tickets. April 12th, 13th, and 14th, business hours at Lil Ricci’s NY Pizzeria Dine at Lil’ Ricci’s NY Pizzeria Dine in or carry out at Lil’ Ricci’s Golden location and 20% of your purchase will benefit Ralston House. Ralston House works with law enforcement, human services, and the community to provide a safe place to investigate child abuse and ensure victim services for children who have been physically or sexually abused or witnessed violence. Ralston House provides education and outreach to prevent child abuse and has a mission to stop the abuse and start the healing.
Jefferson County constantly works to support families to ensure the safety of children, youth and families but cannot do it alone. Groups, organizations and individuals throughout the community are highly encouraged to get involved in this effort.
All activities are designed to build thriving communities that support healthy kids and strong families, all of which can help prevent child abuse and neglect before it even occurs. Everyone plays a role in the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Together, we can make a difference, please do your part in preventing child abuse and neglect every day.
