Re: Brian O'Connell Sentenced to 13 Years Prison

    Brian Edward O'Connell, DOB: 2-29-68, appeared today in Jefferson County District Court and was sentenced to 13 years in prison.  On February 1, the second day of jury selection in his trial, O'Connell pled guilty to Theft (a class four felony); Perjury (a class four felony); Criminally Negligent Homicide (a class five felony); Illegal Practice of Medicine (a class two misdemeanor); and Third Degree Assault (a class 1 misdemeanor).  

    He was sentenced to five years in prison for both the Theft and Perjury counts, three years in prison for Criminally Negligent Homicide (the maximum possible), 12 months in county jail for Practicing Medicine without a License, and 24 months in jail for 3rd Degree Assault.  The prison sentences are to be run consecutively to each other (12 years) and the jail sentences concurrent to that. 

    O'Connell was immediately remanded to custody of the Sheriff's Office.
