Community Services Supervision
Who Are We?
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, this unit consists of one Community Services Supervisor and 4 Community Services Case Managers, as well as three shared Administrative Support Staff within the Division.
What Is Our Mission?
To provide services
that enable the criminal justice/courts system to alleviate jail overcrowding by sentencing adults and/or juveniles to perform community service work (useful public service) as an alternative to incarceration or detention.
Where Are We Located?
We are located in the Administration and Courts Building at 100 Jefferson County Parkway, Suite 1050, Golden, CO 80401. A satellite office is also located in the Gilpin County Courthouse to serve that part of the First Judicial District. Our offices are open 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. We are closed for the lunch hour from noon to 1:00 p.m.
Who Is Our Customer?
Our many customers include judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, municipal, county and district courts, and the citizens of Jefferson County.
Our office also works closely with juvenile and adult probation departments. Persons convicted in Jefferson or Gilpin County or convicted in other jurisdictions throughout the state but reside in Jefferson County, are eligible to perform community/useful public service.
What Services or Products Do We Provide?
We place and supervise adults and juveniles convicted of traffic, misdemeanor and felony offenses and who are ordered by the court to perform community service. After determining capabilities and proximity to a particular agency, we refer individuals to appropriate government or non-profit/charitable organizations to work in whatever capacity the receiving agency requires as a consequence for their offense.
We monitor a client's compliance and provide verbal and/or written reports to the court, probation departments, and other community service programs throughout the state. If a client does not comply with the court order to finish their hours within a specified time, we will contact the client and determine why and attempt to place them at another work site. If a client does not comply with the order of the court to perform their community service, the court is advised and a warrant may be issued. Once before the court, a judge may place the individual in custody, impose a fine, refer them back to our program, or any combination thereof. Some clients are placed in our Work Crew Program.
The Work Crew Program is designed and supervised by staff to allow clients to perform work projects within the county. It also serves as an intermediate sanction, in lieu of initiating revocation proceedings. Clients performing community service are covered by a general public liability insurance policy.
How do we do it?
Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m, Monday through Friday. Case managers are available during this time to receive referrals from the courts or probation departments. In most instances, a case manager will interview a person immediately following their court appearance. Clients pay a one-time intake fee that covers supplemental accident insurance and administrative costs.
How are we contacted? How are referrals made?
Clients may be ordered to our program by a sentencing judge, or referred by a probation officer, diversion officer, or other criminal justice official, or by another community service program. Referrals can be made by mailing or faxing the Intake Referral form or the Inter-County Referral form, if from another county. Our telephone number is 303-271-6520. The fax number is 303-271-6505.
