Places and supervises adult and juvenile offenders who are ordered by the Court to provide useful public service as part of their sentence. Offenders are placed with various agencies to provide labor or are assigned to a work crew. The work crew provides labor to county agencies, other government agencies and non –profit organizations.
Jefferson County Justice Services is proud to announce the formation of a dedicated Juvenile Unit within its Community Service division. The unit will be charged with juvenile case management and weekend work crew aspects of Community Service The Unit has been created to better serve court-involved youth as well as pre-adjudicated youth and status offenders. The goal is to provide information and opportunities to enable juveniles to change their course.
The weekend work crew will provide meaningful public service on Saturday and Sunday and contain a component designed to build skills, opportunity and personal development for juvenile crew members. Projects will be completed at various sites and juvenile unit crew leaders will facilitate discussions, education and positive experiences that may encourage crew members to change their course. Presentations form the work crew hosts and guests will also offer positive development opportunities.
Community Service Plus is a new program that encourages offenders to fulfill their community service hours by engaging in meaningful work or education that benefits them and their community. The program consists of a network of educational and community projects focused on the offenders’ personal development and contribution to their community. Examples include: Fatherhood program, parenting classes, GED classes, resume building and interview practice, conflict resolution, community gardens and beautification, verbal de-escalation, and volunteering at food banks or shelters and independent projects.
