Insurance is Required at Time of Registration

Colorado coverage on the vehicle currently being registered is required. Insurance in the previous owners name is not acceptable.

Acceptable Proof of Insurance
One of the following documents (original, electronic*, fax, or photocopy) is acceptable as proof of insurance:

A letter from the insurance company (on their letterhead) stating that the vehicle is insured.
The declaration page from the insurance policy.
The insurance binder or policy.
Your insurance card.

*A counter agent may accept electronic proof of insurance on your device (laptop, tablet, smart phone) at their discretion. Email to an agent not available.

Updating the Database
Jefferson County Motor Vehicle functions in an administrative role only and cannot update the database. In order for the database to be updated, you need to contact the Colorado Motor Vehicle Division at: (303) 205-5600.
