The counting of ballots for the 2008 General Election concluded in Jefferson County at 1:39 a.m. today. The final unofficial election results are posted on the Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder?s Web site at www.votejeffco.com. 

Returns were posted on the Clerk and Recorder?s Web site on Election Night, starting with the first set of results at 7:01 p.m., immediately after the close of polls. This first set of results posted were from early voting ballots and mail-in ballots cast before Election Day, and represented approximately 78.4% of the total unofficial turnout for the General Election. Results were updated regularly throughout the night, and detailed information regarding voter turnout and the results of each race were provided for each individual precinct.

Approximately 20,156 mail-in ballots were received and counted on Election Day, in addition to 49,928 ballots cast by voters at each of Jefferson County?s 241 precinct polling locations.

Although the Election Night counting is complete, the results posted are unofficial. In the coming days, Jefferson County election professionals will begin the process of verifying and counting provisional ballots cast in the election. Jeffco election officials estimate that there are approximately 4,800 provisional ballots to verify in the coming days.

By law, the results of provisional ballots cast cannot be included in any unofficial election results. Final official election results will be posted upon the completion of verification and counting of provisional ballots and the completion of the post-election audit and canvas. 

?We are pleased to have completed our Election Day duties,? said Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder Pam Anderson. ?We?ll begin our post-election duties first thing in the morning and work on putting a close to this election cycle.?
