Jefferson County Airport has been recognized by the Colorado Office of Economic Development & International Trade as an Aviation Development Zone (ADZ). This recognition will provide incentives to aircraft manufacturers who do business at the airport.
Each aircraft manufacturing company at Jeffco Airport can receive a state income tax credit of $1,200 per new employee. To be eligible for this credit, the company must have a minimum of 10 full-time employees. According to the Office of Economic Development & International Trade, an aircraft manufacturer is described as a business engaged in the production of aircraft parts specifically used in the manufacture of aircraft or engaged in the development of proof of concept or prototype aircraft, a test and evaluation aircraft, a certification aircraft or a production aircraft. The business cannot be involved in the maintenance of aircraft. Qualifying businesses can begin claiming their tax credits beginning with the 2006 tax year.
"We are extremely pleased with the state's recognition of Jeffco Airport as an ADZ," said Airport Manager Kenny Maenpa. "This will provide an opportunity for existing airport businesses to consider aircraft manufacturing and to expand their operations. It is our hope this will also attract new businesses to the area, further contributing to the county's economy."
The Jefferson County Airport was established in 1960 and has been self-supporting for more than 30 years. It is located near Broomfield at the intersection of U.S. 36 and Wadsworth Blvd and is Colorado's fourth busiest airport.
