WHO: Jefferson County Commissioners, directors of the county Fleet Services and Road and Bridge departments, and representatives of the vendors.
WHAT: Jefferson County Commissioners will unveil what is believed to be the first ever hybrid snowplow, a 2009 International Model 7300 Hybrid. When compared to a traditional truck, this hybrid model could reduce hydrocarbon emissions by as much as 65 percent and fuel consumption by as much as 60 percent. The snowplow will hit the streets for the first time this winter.
Jeffco’s Fleet Services Department worked with McCandless International, Eaton Corporation and O.J. Watson Equipment to create the snowplow from a hybrid truck. Companies have used this model of hybrid truck for deliveries, but no other entity is known to have outfitted the truck for use as a snowplow.
