Re: Jeffco’s Multi-hazard Mitigation Plan available for review

Jefferson County, Co. – A draft of the Jefferson County Multi-Jurisdictional Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan is complete and ready for review.  Stakeholders from Jefferson County, Arvada, Lakewood, Wheat Ridge, Golden, Edgewater, Mountain View, and Lakeside along with several Special Districts, Fire Protection and Water & Sanitation Districts have participated in providing critical data for the development of a county-wide mitigation plan.

This plan will serve as a vital mechanism for the implementation of mitigation actions that have been identified for each participating jurisdiction in efforts to create disaster-resistant communities across Jefferson County. A Web site has been developed to allow the Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee and the public to review the document prior to the final published edition so that comments, concerns and corrections can be incorporated.

Please visit the Web site and click on the Documents tab, then select the Review Draft for HMPC December 11, 2009 folder.  In the folder click on the JeffCo-HMPC Draft Combined (PDF) document.  You must either download or save the document to view it.  Any comment can be sent to laura.nay@amec.com or Ron Celentano at rcelenta@co.jefferson.co.us.

A public meeting will be held on January 14 at the Jefferson County Administration and Courts Facility. The meeting will be held from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. An overview of the plan and its contents will be presented. The Risk and Vulnerability Assessment sections contain specific information for each jurisdiction’s risks, and the Mitigation Strategy section identifies actions to be implemented to address those risks.

It has been a very successful project and we encourage the public to embrace the proactive measures their community has taken by reviewing the plan and submitting comments. The plan will also be available at libraries across Jefferson County should anyone choose to view it that way.
