Re: Golden Teens Sentenced for Molotov Cocktail Explosion

Two Golden High School teens have been sentenced for throwing a Molotov cocktail into a car in the school parking lot in May, 2009. They have pled guilty and been sentenced according to their roles in the crime.

On June 1, 2009, the District Attorney’s Office filed charges against the teens. Both teens were 17 years old and were charged as juveniles. The teen who actually threw the explosive into the vehicle had been overheard telling other students of his plan. The device caused an explosion and fire that destroyed the vehicle, which belonged to a school employee. Fortunately no one was injured in the blaze.

The teen who threw the device is now 18. He pled guilty on October 21 to Second Degree Arson. On January 13, he was sentenced to 18 months probation. The sentencing judge ordered that the probation officer could send the teen to up to 45 days at Mount View, at their discretion, and could order him to complete up to six weekends of non-residential work crew. This teen was also ordered to complete classes in cognitive skills development and to comply with random urinalysis.

The second teen, still 17, helped the other teen after the fact, but had no advance knowledge of the plan and was not at the school when the explosive
was detonated. He pled guilty to Accessory to a Crime on December 10 and was sentenced to two years probation and up to 96 hours non-residential work crew, at the discretion of the probation officer.
