The husband and wife duo of William and Kelli Hilborne have pled guilty and been sentenced for stealing money from a nonprofit organization that sponsors a youth football program in Jefferson County.
William Edward Hilborne, 45, and Kelli Marie Hilborne, 41, were officers on the board of directors for the Golden Applewood Midget Football Association (GAMFA) in 2006 and 2007. During that time the Hilbornes stole over $10,000 of the association’s money. William and Kelli Hilborne withdrew cash from the club’s bank account, wrote checks and used the association’s debit card for their personal use.
The GAMFA is funded through registration fees paid by parents to entitle their children to participate in football activities.
In October 2009, a Jefferson County jury indicted William and Kelli Hilborne, and a third GAMFA officer, 37-year-old Cheryl Wyckoff. In 2006, Wyckoff was acting as treasurer for the association.
Cheryl Wyckoff wrongfully paid out GAMFA funds. She pled guilty to felony theft on December 14, 2009, and was granted a two year deferred judgment and sentence.
The Hilbornes each pled guilty to felony theft, a class four felony, and were sentenced on April 19. Kelli Hilborne was sentenced to three years probation and William Hilborne was sentenced to five years probation. They were ordered to pay $14,390 in restitution.
