Jefferson County officials announced Jim Garner has been hired as the new director of Strategic Sourcing. He will be overseeing the Procurement & Contracting Division (formerly Purchasing).
"The wealth of knowledge Jim brings will be a tremendous asset to the county," said Support Services Director Jerelyn (Jere) Bower. "His focus on customer service will ensure the county's processes are both effective and cost-efficient. We are excited to have him on board."
Over the past 15 years working in the strategic sourcing and procurement industry, Garner has focused heavily on customer service. He has designed and implemented innovative purchasing programs for large organizations which have streamlined processes, added value and reduced costs.
Prior to joining Jefferson County, Garner served as the purchasing director for Navigant International. He also has worked in various purchasing management positions for Teletech Inc., PrimeStar, Inc. and First Data Corporation. Garner has been recognized as a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) by the Institute of Supply Management.
He will be joining the county Monday, April 17, 2006.
