Re: Trail Expansion Planned at Alderfer/Three Sisters Park in Evergreen
Jefferson County Open Space is planning to construct trails on the former Blair Ranch, acquired by the program in 2002 as part of Alderfer/Three Sisters Park in Evergreen. Staff is in the process of finalizing the design for additional trails in anticipation of construction later this year. Approximately 3.6 miles of new trail will be added to the existing 12.5 miles at the park. The new trails will be a combination of existing old roadbeds and new trail construction, forming additional internal loops with varying distances.
The site map shows the proposed trails as dashed lines with existing trails as solid lines. No access to these new trails is being considered from surrounding private property. Construction should begin in June and be completed by the end of the year.
Alderfer/Three Sisters boasts 1,100 acres of parkland containing four rock formations called the Three Sisters and the Brother. These landmarks provide spectacular views of the Bear Creek Basin. In combination with two adjacent Denver Mountain Parks (Elephant and Dedisse) over 2,135 acres of contiguous public lands have been set aside. Trailhead locations for Alderfer/Three Sisters Park are located along Buffalo Park Road west of Highway 73 in Evergreen.
