What: A tour of the old Jefferson County jailhouse located on Colorado School of Mines property in Golden. Demolition of the old facility is scheduled to begin soon to make way for new construction. Prior to demolition, Jeffco Sheriff Ted Mink and the Colorado School of Mines are inviting members of the media to tour the still in-tact jail for a rare photo opportunity of Jeffco’s history.
The jail was built in 1958, and was occupied until 1984 when the new detention facility was built. A time capsule was placed in a cornerstone of the building at its completion in 1958. The time capsule will be removed and an opening ceremony will follow in the coming days.
