The former executive director of the Jefferson County Childrens’ Alliance (JCCA) was sentenced today to two years in the jail work release program and 10 years probation for stealing funds from the organization she managed.
Cheryl Fugett, 60, of Denver, stole over $20,000 from the JCCA between December 2003 and February 28, 2007. She used the JCCA’s funds to pay over $700 for her daughter’s summer tuition at Colorado State University, to pay over $5,000 for personal dental work, to pay for a $1,400 home roof repair and for $1,000 in repairs to the pool and hot tub at her home.
In addition, Fugett wrote over $5,000 in checks on the JCCA’s accounts towards paying off her personal credit cards. She also wrote and cashed numerous checks to herself, diverting thousands of dollars to her own personal use.
Fugett was convicted of two counts of forgery and eight counts of felony theft at trial in June.
The JCCA provided forensic interviews for children who were victims of abuse in a child friendly atmosphere. The non-profit organization shut down operations at the end of 2007 and is currently merging its remaining assets with a similar facility in Arvada.
