In 2008, Jefferson County Open Space (JCOS) agreed to allow use of JCOS property at 151 S. Rooney Road on a short term basis as a slash drop off site considering the many environmental benefits of collecting materials such as yard waste, tree trimmings, limbs, trunks, and lumber.
The purpose of the short term use was to give time to find a more permanent location as this operation it is not allowed as a long-term Open Space use. Unfortunately the license will run out at the end of October and an opportunity to move the operation to another location fell through at the last minute.
Jefferson County; the contractor (A-1 Organics); and the Rooney Road Recycling Center Authority (Authority), an association of the cities of Arvada, Golden, Lakewood, Wheat Ridge, Lakeside and Edgewater, the towns of Morrison and Mountain View and Jefferson County, will continue their efforts to secure a more permanent site.
As more information on a new slash site becomes available it will be posted on Jefferson County’s website, jeffco.us, and the Authority’s website, www.rooneyroadrecycling.org.
On August 11 and 12, the Jeffco Sheriff’s Office will be providing a remote slash drop-off event for mountain residents needing to dispose of slash. Information can be found on the Sheriff’s web site. For information about Jefferson County Open Space, please visit jeffco.us/parks.
The household chemical collection facility, run by the Authority at 151 S. Rooney Road, will continue to operate. This facility site is not located on Open Space property.
