Kathy Hartman Named
Chairman of Board of County Commissioners

Kathy Hartman has been named the 2008 chairman of the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners.  She was handed the gavel in a ceremony earlier today by Commissioner Jim Congrove, the outgoing chairman.  Commissioner Kevin McCasky will serve as chairman pro-tem for 2008.

Hartman was sworn in to her first term as commissioner last year.  Prior to her election, she was executive director for 16 years of Stride, a non-profit agency that assists more than 300 homeless and low-income families each year in Adams, Arapahoe and Jefferson Counties, helping them move from poverty to self-sufficiency.  She also worked as an investment advisor for seven years for two major Wall Street firms.

In addition to chairing the Board of County Commissioners, Hartman also will chair the Board of Directors of the Jefferson County Law Enforcement Authority.  She has also been chosen to chair the Metro Area County Commissioners (MACC) group in 2008.

Several other appointments were made today by the Board of County Commissioner in their annual organizational meeting.  

Commissioner Hartman will continue to represent the county on the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) and the Jefferson Center for Mental Health boards and will serve as an alternate on the Boundary Control Commission, the Jefferson Economic Council and the Head Start Policy Council.

Commissioner Congrove will be the county?s representative on the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District Board, the E-911 Board, the Head Start Policy Council, and the Rocky Flats Stewardship Council; and will be an alternate to DRCOG, the Boundary Control Commission and the Jefferson Economic Council.  Commissioner McCasky will be the county?s representative on the Jefferson Economic Council and the Boundary Control Commission and chairman pro-tem of the Law Enforcement Authority Board.  All three commissioners will serve as the county?s Noxious Weed Advisory Board.

In other organizational matters, the commissioners retained the glass enclosures outside of Hearing Room One in the Administration & Courts Facility, 100 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden, as the location for posting official notices and agendas.  The county also publishes that information on its Web site at www.jeffco.us.
