Jefferson County, Colorado ? On July 8, 2008, SWAT teams from the Aurora and Lakewood police departments executed search and arrests warrants at two locations in reference to a home invasion robbery that occurred in south Jeffco on June 30.
Aurora?s SWAT team arrested a male at the 3700 block of South Emporia Way for his involvement in the robbery. Evidence linked to the robbery was also located inside the home. The suspect was identified as Garry Martin, dob 121465. Investigators also found evidence linked to the robbery in a home at the 600 block of South Yarrow Street in Lakewood.
The home invasion robbery occurred on June 30th at the 6500 block of South Arbutus Circle after suspects followed the victim from Southwest Plaza Mall to his residence and robbed him at gunpoint inside his home. The suspects duct taped the victim?s hands and feet and ?hog tied? his limbs together. The masked suspects stole numerous items from the victim?s home, including money and credit cards, and left the scene in a 2008 black Cadillac. The victim eventually broke free from his restraints and called 911.
A short time later a woman called Denver 911 to report that she witnessed a man in a ski mask attempting to use the ATM machine at the Wells Fargo Bank at Dartmouth & Sheridan. (The suspect was attempting to use the victim?s credit cards.) The man then drove away in a black Cadillac. A Denver police officer stopped the Cadillac, which had up to three occupants inside. The vehicle sped away before the occupants could be contacted and identified. A short pursuit ensued but was quickly discontinued per Denver?s pursuit policy. (The robbery in Jeffco had not yet been reported to the authorities.)
In the days following the robbery, investigators followed up on information reported via the tip line as a result of the media coverage of the incident. Through the course of the investigation, investigators received relevant information that led them to the two locations in Aurora and Lakewood.
Just two weeks before the home invasion robbery, on June 18, Garry Martin was involved in a crime spree in Jeffco/Lakewood. Martin was arrested after he and another suspect committed a locker burglary at Bally?s Fitness Center at Wadsworth Boulevard and Belleview Avenue. The suspects stole the victim?s wallet, keys and the victim?s Toyota Tundra from the parking lot. By the time the victim noticed the burglary, his credit cards had already been used at two department stores in Lakewood. The suspects also drove the stolen vehicle to the victim?s home and burglarized it. Lakewood police spotted the stolen vehicle and pursued it after they driver refused to stop. Both suspects fled on foot after the vehicle?s tire went flat. The driver, Garry Martin, was apprehended immediately while the second suspect was tracked by a K-9 unit to 600 block of South Yarrow Street where he was found hiding in the window well. The second suspect was arrested and identified as Vincent Martin, dob 011890.
As mentioned above, Garry Martin was arrested in Aurora on July 8 during the execution of a search warrant related to the home invasion robbery. He is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on a $250,000 cash-only bond. Authorities believe at least one other suspect is still at large and may be driving the black 2008 Cadillac CTS-V with Fleet license plate #351RBL.
Jeffco investigators are asking for help in identifying the remaining suspects in this case. Anyone with information is urged to call the Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office tip line at 303-271-5612.
