Jefferson County, Colorado ? Tobias Archuleta, 27-years-old, turned himself in after robbing the Bellco Credit Union located at 10058 West Progress Avenue this morning at 9:15 a.m. Archuleta was identified by a Sheriff?s Investigator and an employee of the credit union.
Archuleta entered the credit union and fired rounds from a handgun into the ceiling and demanded money from a teller. Archuleta stole keys from an employee to a silver Dodge minivan. After asking where the car was parked, Archuleta fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. The minivan was abandoned near Tulane Avenue and South Quail Street where it was recovered a short time later by members of the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force (RMSSTF). A handgun, believed to be used during the robbery, and money from the credit union has been recovered.
Due to initial information concerning shots being fired and the possibility of a second suspect, the Jefferson County Regional SWAT responded. Once the credit union was secured, restraints were put on everyone inside the bank before moving them to a safe location for positive identification. Upon determining there was only one suspect, interviews of employees and customers were conducted.
Archuleta will be booked into the Denver Jail for processing of federal bank robbery charges.
